Installation – Dexterity Power BI companion app for Business Central
- Pre-installation checklist
- A running installation of our Dexterity Data Replication app configured for Azure SQL Database
- A Power BI Pro license for any user that needs access to Power BI reports
- Power BI App installation
- Go to https://app.powerbi.com/groups/me/apps?experience=power-bi
- Click on Apps and then select Get Apps
- Search for ‘Dexterity – Power BI reports for Business Central’ (or simply ‘Dexterity’)
- Click Get it now and follow the steps to install. Once installed, you’re able to find the app in the Apps menu in Power BI
- Connect your Azure SQL Database
- Open the app and select Connect Your Data
- Setup Parameters
- This app uses a Date-tabel which only provides data for the period you need
- Start year Date-tabel: enter the first year of your Business Central data
- End year Date-tabel: enter the current calendar year or a year in the future
- Enter your Azure SQL Database connection properties and credentials
- Server: your Azure SQL Database endpoint Example: DexterityServer.database.windows.net
- Database: The actual name if your Database. Example: Dexterity_On_BC
- Choose Authentication Method
- Basic: also known as ‘SQL Authentication’ use the specific user name and password supplied by either us or your IT-department
- Oauth2: Login with your office 365 credentials
- Your data is now linked, and the app will display your reports.
- Keep your data up-to-date (see also: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/connect-data/refresh-scheduled-refresh)
- Navigate to the Template App workspace and select the Semantic model
- On the semantic model details page, select Refresh > Schedule refresh
- Open the ‘Refresh’ section
- Turn ‘On’ Configure a refresh schedule
- Optional: specify specific refresh time slots, The maximum number of scheduled refreshes per day depends on the license/capacity
- Select ‘Apply’
